Tex in the City had its first 4:Your Consideration Art Series event on Wednesday night, June 4th at the Gershwin Hotel and it was a fantastic evening of live theater mixed with social interaction (and really inexpensive beer and wine). The crowd started arriving pretty much on time for the hour long pre-party and by 7:00 pm, the bar area of the Gershwin Hotel's Living Room performance space was filled to capacity. All three of the staged readings were well-received and each offered the audience a different relationship to scrutinize and ultimately discuss with each other and the playwright, Kayla Solomon. Kayla was a gracious artist listening to the audience's reactions to her work and then taking time after the readings to share her personal thoughts and insights into the development of the characters and situations that made up the body of the three plays.
Kambri, Scott and I had envisioned this exact kind of artistic and social interaction when we created Tex in the City and seeing the 4:Your Consideration Art Series develop into a tangible outlet for this mix of theatrical expression and entertainment was quite a thrill. I am really looking forward to more of these kinds of events where the audience has the chance to interact and participate in the art of theater while still being entertained by it.
